Is building a wordpress site easy? All these people are ready to start a side hustle… They want to do something that will take them away from the grind of 9 to 5 ( for some, work significantly longer) and become their own boss! They are going to build their first wordpress website and start a new business online. It is EASY to build a WordPress website and I will show you in this article how to do it. There are a few straightforward steps before we can start building, but I will take you through these.
Why Choose WordPress?
Well the first reason to choose wordpress is that it is free ! Completely free, nothing to pay.
WordPress requires no prior knowledge of any coding or html, in fact most people who start to use wordpress have no previous knowledge of writing code or designing websites. So for those of us that are not savvy about web building its perfect !
A large portion of people using WordPress are neither web designers nor programmers. As a matter of fact, most folks start using WordPress without any prior knowledge of designing websites and they are able to build a very successful business using wordpress.
WordPress makes ready-to-use themes that contain thousands of free templates for you to use, without any coding. You can customise your website using these and plugins.
WordPress is super easy to use because of the tenplates and plugins, it still gives you versatility and ability show your flair within the parameters of the templates.
WordPress is versatile but safe, with a wecure platform but this doesnt mean you shouldn’t make sure you have a good firewall. The other option is to use a good hosting platform that offers security too – More on this later!
What Do You Need To Build A WordPress Website?
The first step is to choose a niche! This is the area of work online that they would like to work in, which is no mean feat, its important to get this right, its going to be the whole centre of the business. I have written various blogs about choosing your niche and also an ebook – here if you want to go purchase it – Choosing Profitable Niches
Once you have a niche sorted out, the next step is to decide what you are going to call your business. You need to purchase a domain name, this is your url – this is mine – https://www.entrepreneursmart.com so think about what you want to call yours. If you want support through the whole of this process, the platform that I used when I started out may well be what you want. Its called Wealthy Affiliate.
They offer a free week for you to try the platform out, make sure its something you will make the most use of. If you want to read an article I wrote recently about Wealthy Affiliate, take a look, its a quite resume of their features.
But if you want to do it yourself, I will show you what to do.
The ‘How To’ Plan
The first part of the plan is straightforward, installing WordPress, following instructions and getting it installed. Follow my short clip on what to do to install a theme.
If you would like to see the lesson at Wealthy Affiliate about installing and using wordpress, I have embedded it below. You can see how much help we are given at Wealthy Affiiliate.
So once you have installed your theme and started a few of the basic pages such as the About Us or your Privacy Policy, you want to consider what additions you want to your website. This is another great feature of WordPress in that you can add PLUGINS which add in more advanced features to your website. These are mostly free, but if you are wanting a specific one, then you may find you have to pay for them but they’re not super expensive.
Plugins
There is a separate tab for plugins in your WordPress dashboard. Its under Appearances and takes you to this tab. You can search for whatever plugin you want and frequently there are lite versions of premium plugins that you can try for free. The information on each plugin will tell you what it will do for you and whether it is compatible with your version of WordPress and also how many people have downloaded it recently and when it was last updated to help you decide if its the one you want to use.
Conclusion
WordPress has opened up the ability for anyone to create an online presence without incurring the costs of a web designer. When a business is starting out, there are no funds for web designing so it has to be something that a person can pick up without having to learn computer language – there are so many! But the main computer language is html and this is what wordpress uses.
You can add some snippets into the code as WordPress allows you to see the html so if you want to add snippets in to enhance and improve your site – when you know what you are doing of course, but add a little spritz to your pages Wordpress runs this site and I am pretty pleased with how I manage ! Good luck to you with your webstie, and if you want any help, then send me a message !
I am truly amazed on how it has become really easy to build a website. I have been online for several years and I can assure you that it was not this easy when I first started out online. Only a few people could own a website as that time because it was difficult to create one. But now things are very different as almost anyone can now build a website in a matter of seconds. It is truly amazing. This present generation really have made things easier for themselves.
It certainly is, and thankfully for us all!
That inforgraphic with steps for getting set up on WordPress is really great!!!! It makes it seem easy. I was not real sure from your article how much a beginner would have to learn about WordPress to get started. Is it relatively easy to get up and running? About how long would it take someone who is not website savvy to learn to use WordPress? One of the main questions I have is what exactly is a theme when you are talking about WordPress? Is there plenty of training available on how to use different themes?
Also, I was wondering if you have some recommendations for themes. It seems like there are a huge number of themes out there to choose from. What characteristics would you look for when selecting one of the themes? Also, what themes do you recommend? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.
WordPress is super easy to learn, they have many tutorials you can follow to help and the themes allow for an amazing looking websites without having to write the code which would take months to learn. WordPress does it all. I started out at Wealthy Affiliate which walked me through the process and supported my websites by hosting them for me too. But for those that do not want to use Wealthy Affiliate wordpress is a very easy way of getting a website very quickly.
I love your step-by-step approach to this with all of the screenshots and videos. WordPress really does look easy to use but I’m a complete newbie. I’m sure I would need to learn a lot to be able to use it. Where would you recommend I get inexpensive or free training on this? Also, you mentioned hosting. I guess I would need that as well?
For the best support building a website, i have to recommend Wealthy Affiliate, They offer hosting alongside a community of likeminded people with everything you need to be a success online; But it does come with a cost. it’s free to try out for a week, then $19 for the first month then $49 a month after that. But hosting along would be expensive so at least this way you get hosting and support.
thank you for this great post I have built three websites through WordPress and I am still learning things and with your post, I have learned some more very well done and it is easy to read thank you for the post you have explained WordPress down to a tee
Im glad it was of help to you!
I have heard a lot about wordpress sites and how so many of the biggest brands with the largest web traffic are run on wordpress. Given it’s popularity with these heavy hitters, it seemed like it would be a big platform that would require major resources to run. I was happy to learn that couldn’t be less true, and that setting up a wordpress site is likely so popular because it is so easy and accessible to people that are beginners and to programmers as well.
Thanks for sharing this guide to getting up and running with wordpress. Do you have any specific plugins that you always recommend to newbies?
Thanks for your comments Aly. I love kraken as it optimises my images without any issue, but keeps them looking good without slowing my site down. I also like content views, it allows me to create my own blog pages linking my blogs of the same theme together. The all in one seo is also excellent, giving me the meta tags needed to optimise my blogs easily.
Thank you so much for showing me how easy it really is to build a website with WordPress! I was able to create my website within 30 seconds! I’ve never even built a website before, but your instructions made it effortless.
I am very excited to see where my online business will take me! If I have completed the steps in this article, what should I do now?
From here you need to start writing articles about your niche. If you have an affiliate website then get going with product reviews to start bringing traffic to your website. I am part of a community of people who support and offer tutorials and access to a ton of really helpful information to build a website. If you would like to look at it, follow this link…Wealthy Affiliate
Thanks for sharing your informative site. I have enjoyed reading about all the different ways to become an entrepreneur! I’ve always wanted to start my own business. I have hear WordPress is easy to use so now hearing it from you is just validating that. Can you tell me if its expensive to get started with Wealthy Affiliate?
You can try WA for free for a week, this gives you time to try all the features without having to even put your card details into any payment portal. The first month is $19 to get you going then is $49 a month but considering you can host your website at Wealthy Affiliate, its practically free for all the information on how to build a website and the community behind it.
You shared some very valuable information here that may not be apparent to most people. There was a time my mind was stuck in the 1990’s when you had to know all about HTML and coding to create websites. It wasn’t until fairly recently I discovered how easy it is to build websites.
Was WordPress your first entry into website building? Or had you tried other options? Your website looks really great. How long did it take you do create it? Did you learn everything by yourself or on Wealthy Affiliate? What Theme did you choose?
Thanks for writing this post.
Cheers.
Edwin
Thanks for your comments Edwin.
WordPress is my only entry into website building, before i started I had never built a website before but relied on others to do things for me on one of my websites. It became an issue and I wanted to do it myself so it made sense to learn how to do. I can now do some coding myself as I have learnt things along the way but fairly straightforward things. I hope that I will get better. My theme is Divi and it has been a steep upward curve in learning how to use it. I learn new things every day with it. But it is the most versatile theme I have ever come across but I simply would not use any other theme now.
Hello there! This is an awesome review you’ve got here on this site. For me, I think word press has helped numerous bloggers and also newbies like me around the world with the opportunity of creating websites for free.
However, it doesn’t work out well on my Android phone, pls can you explain how I create a website using WordPress on my Android?
I have be honest, I don’t work behind the scenes on my phone, Its way too small so I only use wordpress on my laptop. So Im afraid I cant suggest how you can do this.
